I am trying to find records of one of my lost ancestors.
His name was William Matthew WICKS Sr., born in Orange County NC on 22 Nov. 1773, died 5 Jul 1850 Kentucky. I have not been able to find who his Father or Mother were . . . names, dates or place of origin(s).
I'm wondering since he was born in Orange County, NC, someone in D-OGS might be able to help me find this long lost family member of mine?
Thanks for the help.

It is almost certain that your William Wicks was one of at least two sons of Joseph Wicks. Joseph was the husband of Ann Thomas, daughter of Owen Thomas. She is mentioned in her father's Orange Co will about 1769. I feel strongly about the connection because I descend from Nancy or Ann Wicks, their daughter, who married George Smith in 1795. Joseph Wicks later sold his land to George Smith, his son-in-law. The Smiths named a son Joseph. Also Weeks is a rare name here so Joseph, Sr is about the only option and in the right place at the right time. And my father and uncle have numerous atDNA matches at AncestryDNA who descend from your Wicks family and that of the other presumed son Joseph Wicks, Jr.  These aren't merely random matches. They fall within a cluster of Thomas, Smith and Wicks matches. Larry, civilisation75@yahoo.com
