Land Confiscation Records of NC, Vol 1, 1779-1800: First of three volumes containing State Archive Records pertaining to Land Confiscation. Land Confiscation Act was initially developed to provoke men who could not decide to fight for Independence versus remaining loyal to the King. The threat was – you could have your property (and personal possessions) confiscated and sold. These records are primarily documenting Henry E. McCulloh’s land, although, Fanning, Tryon, Josiah Martin, and Milner are included. In this volume are the records for Chatham, Guilford, Montgomery, Orange, Randolph, and Wake County. |
